WE WERE THERE! Kamil Prokeš from the winery Proquin became the sabrage champion!

We already know who the Czech Republic champion at champagne bottles sabering is! We celebrated this victory enthusiastically because this year´s champion is the representative of our favorite Proqin.
Elite sommeliers from all over the country have met U Jeňoura in Prušánky for the fifth time. The atmosphere of sport tournament amid the tables covered with plates offering exquisite delicacies was supported by the marathon of wine tasting. We had the opportunity to taste fine silent and sparkling wines – an experience which would hardly take place anywhere else in Moravia. However be careful – we do not recommend trying to open bottle of champagne in such way during your New Year´s party.
Cutting off the neck of the bottle, with grace and in a completely calm manner is not an easy task to do! Opening bottles in a way some of the competitors have done it seems almost unfeasible. Sitting, in lying position, with the help of saber, glass or empty bottle, two bottles simultaneously, with covered eyes…Very impressive is the execution of the bottle loosely standing on a table, as usually everyone likes to hold the bottle tightly. Zdeňka Kačmářová aroused the applause of her audience in the semi-final when she, lying supine on the table, cut off the neck of the bottle, which she was holding decently on her stomach. During the finals – a free discipline limited with five minutes and twelve bottles – the spectators were applauding almost without pausing.

Forty employees including chefs cooperating with restaurants awarded Michelin stars and the enthusiasm of Jan Ivičič – the owner of the wine cellar rand Libor Nazarčuk – famous sommelier who was guiding his guests during the whole evening, are responsible for the success of the competition.
