August 16 in Austerlitz – The Napoleonic Days

The whole town of Austerlitz is full of good cheer and history during this day. Every year the town of Austerlitz, where the Battle of the Three Emperors took place in 1805 commemorates the anniversary of Napoleon’s birth. An international wine show, the “Grand Prix Austerlitz” is also held at this time.

The wine show is remarkable for the fact that the wines are all judged on one day and the results are announced immediately, on the same day. Visitors can taste all wines which are chosen in the first round, but they are not presented in the order in which they have been placed. The wines originate from the countries which fought in the battle of Austerlitz.

There are musicians, soldiers in historical costumes and a variety of different shows in the front of the chateau. The chateau guides and other people are also in historical costumes on this day. There will be a historical market place and there will be jugglers in the streets.
