Mr. & Mrs. Fučík
Viticulture is Pavel’s and Marie‘s lifelong passion. They come from Branišovice – a small village half an hour from Brno. They manage one hectare of vineyards by themselves, with occasional help from temporary workers at weekends and in the evenings. Although their main activity is cereal cultivation, Pavel knows more about vines than about wheat and barley. He talks about wine with other small winemakers and university students, and soon he’s going to devote himself entirely to wine. The couple’s passion for wine and their lifetime of experience in grape-growing is reflected in the wines from the Fučíks’ cellar.
Wines and vineyards
All the grapes which the Fučíks use to make wine come from their own vineyards. They grow a lot of different varieties on a small area (red St. Laurent, white Grüner Veltliner, Rhine Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Aurelius, Děvín, Moravian Muscat, etc.). They haven’t had to add any sugar to their wine for years, despite the northern location of their vineyards, and although they could even register late harvest wines if they wished, they choose not to. All their bottled wines are sold directly from the cellar.
Cellar
The newly-built, stylishly-furnished cellar is located on the periphery of Branišovice, directly next to the vineyards. The wine is stored and consumed there, although it is possible to taste the wines sitting in front of the cellar too. There is a small kitchenette inside, and the facilities for visitors are of a very high standard.
Usual programme
The guests in Fučíks’ cellar are always given a welcoming drink. Then a light dinner is served and afterwards the guests taste the wines – the ones selected can then be drunk throughout the whole evening. There are plates of sausages, smoked meat, cheese, spreads and other specialities prepared for them. It is possible to serve meat from a grill in summer too. The programme lasts approximately six hours.
Pavel explains everything about wine growing, to those who are interested, directly in the neighbouring vineyard. The Fučíks can also show their guests an old, thirty-metre long cellar in the neighbouring village. This cellar is used for storing their vintage wines. In the autumn, there is the opportunity to taste a total of fifteen different table grapes varieties.
Our notes
- The cellar is not only great for corporate events and parties, or visits by wine lovers, it is also suitable for birthday parties, school re-unions and other celebrations too.
- Cars can be parked in front of the cellar, buses sixty metres away.
- We can arrange shuttle transport from Brno for groups where people don’t all want to come at the same time. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes.
- In the Fučíks’ cellar there is room for 3–5 musicians.
