The Samsons’ Winery

500 CZK Winemaker Jaroslav Samson
The head of the Samson winemaking family is an unconventional man, who loves to personally welcome the guests to his cellar. His great-grandfather started wine-making at the end of the nineteenth century and Jaroslav, with his son, tries to maintain this family tradition. Wine growing is not only his hobby but also his job. Bottles from his cellar of vintage wines have been sold at many charitable auctions and several thirty-year old bottles are still waiting in the cellar for the right opportunity to be opened. But even his young wines, which the guests will taste, are made with love and honesty.
Wines and vineyards
Since the Samsons own only half a hectare of vineyards, they buy grapes from reliable grape-growers who are also committed to quality, on which the Samsons check regularly. They make white and red wines from a range of typical local varieties, and also produce Zweigeltrebe rosé. Some of their wines are produced in a modern way, but other wines are produced according to traditional methods. This makes it possible to compare the two different styles.
Cellar
The Samsons don’t invite you to their cellar, they invite you to their home. Their wine cellar is directly in the courtyard and the wine tasting room is in the rear part of the house. The cellar was finished in 2003 and the room was built some two years later. An atmosphere of age and tradition is evoked by the old beams of the ceiling.
Usual programme
Smaller groups of guests usually start with a wine tasting directly in the cellar. Bigger groups are seated first and told about the history and technology of wine production, but even so, they aren’t left without wine. The guests usually taste the young wines and then they continue to drink those which they find the most interesting. For dinner, the Samsons serve anything the guests want, and in addition, a series of snacks consisting of ham and cheese, home-grown pork and sweet dishes are available throughout the whole evening. The programme usually lasts up to five hours.
